What is wrong with some people?
My sister went out to her car this morning and found a dead squirrel on it. She doesn't suspect this was a natural occurrence, since squirrels, very sure-footed animals, are not likely to accidentally plummet onto a windshield below.
They are even less likely to plummet onto the windshield and become wedged under the wiper blades without an awful lot of help...

Well, yes, but what if the acorns were stuck under the hood? I suspect squirrels, being bushy-tailed rodents*, are rather clever and can lift wiper blades off the windshield - but then it couldn't figure out how to burrow under.
*Rabbits, on the other hand, would've figured out they wouldn't fit under the hood and not try to go in. That, and they don't go after acorns.

You are presuming that
a) squirrels would have the upper arm strength to lift the wipers - have you looked at a squirrel lately? Where would it get the leverage? and
b) that if the blade landed suddenly on its tail, it would die. Eventually, yeah, it would. But in 5 hours or so? Might it not claw around for a while? Or re-lift the blade? Or scream for its squirrel breatheren to come lift the blade?
I'm sure a rabbit would be so resourceful. Oh, except rabbits don't talk. Not loudly anyway. But then, rabbits don't have big tails so they wouldn't have gotten into this mess in the first place. I agree with you on that point.

Well, that's tail's gotta be good for something - maybe the squirrel tried to use it to lift the windshield wiper, and then it slammed back down, and the shock, well.... I mean, you know how painful it is getting your tail stepped on, much less getting stuck under a wiper blade?
So ha! Whaddya think of that?

I think you seriously overestimate the upper-tail strength of the Bostonian squirrel.
